For our fifth international workshop, we invited a Radio-i DJ, Asuka Naito, to participate in a workshop in a format unlike our previous workshops. The workshop was modeled in the style of a live radio talk show with two GP students as the hosts of the show. The feel of the workshop was very much like that of the "David Letterman Show", including a live band led by Professor Robert Hewer who also acted as a color commentator.

Ms. Naito is truly a multi-cultural person and an ideal person to be a role model for our students. She speaks three languages (English, French, and Japanese) and has spent much time studying and working abroad. Now living in Japan and working in a wide range of media, she uses her experiences and linguistic skills daily. While an active person, she firmly believes in having a balanced and healthy lifestyle and is known not only as a media personality but as a yoga teacher and holistic consultant. From start to finish, the students worked first on creating the concept, went to Radio-i to discuss the event with Ms. Naito, and developed the script, ran rehearsals, created an advertising plan, and designed posters, making it a truly student planned and student run event. Though the students only had a limited amount of time to prepare, with the support of the faculty and Ms. Naito, they created a truly meaningful and entertaining event.

Ms. Asuka's Workshop

While all GP Events have been progressively student-centered in terms of planning and implementation, this event was, from start to finish, a student organized event. The students created the event concept, spoke with Asuka to develop the ideas, including a script, and finally put it into production. The mood was that of an American talk-show, right down to the live music and commercial breaks, and the crowd seemed highly interested and entertained. Asuka was an excellent female role model for our students and her positivity and forward-moving attitude inspired all that attended.
