Professor Kinugasa (Osaka city University) gave a lecture about the use of English Corpus Search and Google Search. Many corpus sites on the internet help us to learn English. In the lecture, Professor Kinugasa showed many examples of how to use corpus. When we use Corpus, corpus size is important. It should be large because they have many sample sentences. We learned how to operate BNC(British National Corpus)and COCA(Corpus Of Contemporary American English). They are both free databases. Also, Google is a large source of data. Therefore it is a good corpus source for learners. But there are some different search outcomes and advanced search functions between Google in Japan, the U.K. and the U.S.A. In addition, we should be careful to use Google because examples are not always trustworthy.
