In this lecture, Dr. Saft of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, during Hawaii Week, examined the stereotypes of Japanese and English speakers through discourse. The students experienced a lecture on how grammar structure had a great deal to do with how people of a culture were perceived. There was also discussion of how there were some misunderstandings that came about through forcing cultural biases on language. In conclusion, Dr. Saft stated that the discourse differed very little in intent but just in the type of resources utilized.
