2011年2月18日、モントレー国際大学の准教授である武田先生をお迎えして、 “Interpreting as a Profession (職業としての通訳)” についての講義をしていただきました。通訳と翻訳の誕生の歴史やその必要性、通訳という職業を専門的に扱う上で心がけるべきことを、講義を通して、丁寧にまた詳しく教えていただきました。プロの通訳として活動する時に大切なことは、目標言語がいかに優れているかということを最優先とするのではなく、母語をどれだけ正確に扱えるか、またどれだけ常識を身につけており世界の出来事について知識を持ち、いかに柔軟に対応できるかということです。講義の最後には、南山大学を卒業しモントレー国際大学に進学された先輩方のお話を教えていただき、私たち現役の南山生にとって大変刺激となる講義でした。

Dr. Takeda spoke of the history of "T&I" (translation and interpreting), the basic principles of interpreting, the purpose of the trade, as well as what is needed to be a successful interpreter. She spoke of the value of being proficient in your own language and the value of having a wide range of experiences. Students were quite active during the Q&A and many showed interest in pursuing interpreting after the talk.
